Jan-Willem van Bloem is a PhD student at the faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science
of the University of Twente. His research topic is on Wireless Sensor Networks which is part of the Real Time
Entreprise Wireless and Sensor Systems (WiSe) project, sponsored by the Centre for Telematics and Information
Technology (CTIT). His PhD project is titled 'Network of things', which has a multidisciplinair character whereas 3 different Chairs are participating in the project: Design and Analysis of Communication Systems (DACS), Signals and Systems (SAS), Stochastic Operations Research (SOR). The project is under supervision of Roel Schiphorst, Geert Heijenk, Jan-Kees van Ommeren and Richard Boucherie.
Jan-Willem received his M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Twente (UT) in 2007, where his Master was on Telecommunication. In 2005/2006 he visited British Telecom (BT) in Ipswich for a 3 months internship. There he was working on the OpenWiFi project concerning the WiFi access point (AP) deployment in urban environments. For his master assignment he worked on bandwidth efficient channel coding employing Low Density Parity Check (LDPC) codes. He obtained his Bachelor degree at the University of Twente with a minor on Economics, Bussiness and Administration.
His research interests are on Coding (Channel/Network), Signal Processing, embedded systems engineering, MIMO, Quality of Service and optimization in telecommunication networks.
