Title Design and implementation of a communication and configuration interface for the Chameleon architecture.
Description The Chameleon architecture is a tile based architecture which can consist of various tiles with different functionality. The tiles are connected via a packet switched network on chip. To be flexible, the tiles should be reconfigurable. Both communication and configuration is done by an interface component between the tile and the network: the communication and configuration unit (CCU). The CCU creates an universal interface between the network and tile, which acts as a ordinary memory mapped I/O to the outside world. Due to the universal interface, one network protocol should be used to control all tiles. Being an interface means that the CCU has to reconfigure the tile and a part of the CCU, to write data from the network to the tile memories, to write data from the memories to the network and to control the clock, reset and other control signals for the tile. Depending on the kind of algorithm in the tile, the CCU is able to send and receive blocks of data or to receive and send streams of data.
