I have just accepted to serve on the Program Committee of the Extending Datatabase Technology school (EDBT school 2009) to be held August 30 – September 4 2009 at Presqu’ile de Giens ( EDBT summer school brings together leading researchers of the database community and provides participants the opportunity to gain deep insight into current research trends in the database area. The Summer School features lectures, discussions and interactions with highly renowned lecturers recognized as leading experts in their fields. Preliminary theme of the school is “Data and resource management in ambient computing” featuring topics like “Semantic-oriented data spaces”, “Event and data stream processing”, “Privacy-aware data management and information security”, and “Middleware for mobile data and services”.

I have co-organized the EDBT summerschool of 2004 on Sardinia, Italy and served on the PC of the EDBT summerschool of 2007 in Bozen-Bolzano, Italy. The EDBT school is perfect for starting PhD students in some database-related field. Furthermore, I advise every PhD student to attend a summerschool, EDBT or other. So if you are a starting PhD student, keep a close watch on this one!
