Profile
Thijs Krol (1942) started his professional life at the Philips Research Laboratories (Nat. Lab.) in Eindhoven, the Netherlands in 1971, where he worked on fault-tolerant architectures for telecommunications, error-correcting codes and telecommunication switching systems. From 1983 to 1985 he has been working as research coordinator at Philips International after which he continued his research at the Philips Research Laboratories until 1992 in the field of design methodologies for VLSI and high-level specification and design languages. From 1983 to 1991 he was part-time lecturer in fault tolerant computing at the Technical University Eindhoven. In 1992 he was appointed as a full-time professor in computer architecture and embedded systems (CAES) in the department of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS) ( Elektrotechniek, Wiskunde en Informatica (EWI)) of the University of Twente. His prime research interests are VLSI design methodology and fault-tolerant computing. In 2006 his professional activities were gradually transferred to his successor Prof.dr.ir. G.J.M Smit (Gerard Smit). During the period 1992 until 2006 the chair CEAS expanded from less than ten persons (Scientific staff including PhD students) to more than thirty persons. In that time the chair gave birth to two start-ups, Recore Systems and Ambient-Systems In February 2007 Thijs Krol gave his valedictory lecture. Contact
