Fei Liu is currently a PhD student at faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science, Chair Design and Analysis of Communication Systems, of the University of Twente (UT). Her research topic is "Context-aware Networking" under the supervision of Dr. Geert Heijenk. This PhD work is part of Freeband AWARENESS project sponsored by Dutch government. Her Research interest is mobile and wireless networks, especially in:
Abstract: This PhD topic is a part of the Freeband AWARENESS (context AWARE mobile Networks and ServiceS) project, which mainly focuses on researching and designing a service and network infrastructure for context-aware and pro-active applications. The major application of the Freeband AWARENESS project is mobi-health. This PhD work designed and developed context discovery protocol Ahoy using attenuated Bloom filters in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). Based on this idea, an analytical model is developed and verified by comparing with the simulation model. By using the analytical model, we prove that our approach is very efficient, compared with conventional approaches in realistic situations. We can also calculate the various parameters settings using the analytical model. Further, the impact of dynamic connectivity and malicious attacks on the performance of our discovery mechanism is evaluated. Finally, the interoperability with the Mobile Service Platform (MSP) is studied. A context discovery adapter (CDA) between Ahoy and MSP is established and tested.
