Victor F. Nicola holds the Ph.D. degree in computer science from Duke University, North Carolina. From 1979, he held faculty and research staff positions at Eindhoven University, Duke University, and IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center. Since 1993, he has been an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Twente, The Netherlands. His research interests include performance and dependability modeling and analysis methodologies, applied probability, queuing theory, randomized algorithms for combinatorial and continuous optimization, and rare event simulation, with applications in dependable distributed and embedded systems, telecommunication networks, and logistics, among others.
