Research interests and publications

I received a PhD degree for my thesis titled "Decomposition-Based Analysis of Queueing Networks". My research interests include

Please take a look at the publications section for a complete list of my publications. Many of them can be downloaded at EEMCS EPrints.

You may also find this page interesting if you, like me, have to analyze large amounts of data.

Projects and professional activities

I am/have been active in several projects on intrusion detection systems and traffic monitoring, analysis and modeling. A complete list of former and ongoing projects can be found in the projects section.

I am currently active in the European FP7 IP UniverSelf (started in September 2010) where I lead the task force on anomaly detection, safety, and governance. In the context of this project, I visited the MADYNES team at INRIA, Nancy in February/March 2011.

Until April 2010, I was leader of work package 7 ("Scalable Management") in the European Network of Excellence on Management Solutions for Next Generation Networks (EMANICS).

I also chair the IRTF-NMRG/EMANICS workshops on Netflow/IPFIX Usage in Network Management (currently three instances). Here are the homepages of the 2008, 2009 and 2010 incarnations of the workshop.

In 2009, I was program chair of the 3rd International Conference on Autonomous Infrastructure, Management and Security (AIMS 2009), Enschede, The Netherlands. In the same year, I was a committee member of ICIW 2009. In 2010 and 2011, I was PC member of the AIMS 2010, respectively AIMS 2011, conference.

From 2004 to 2007, I worked on robust speech-recognition systems for industrial applications at the topsystem GmbH (external link), Germany.

Finally, I worked as PhD student and scientific assistant at the University of Aachen, Germany, from 1998 to 2003. At the Laboratory for Performance Evaluation and Distributed Systems, I participated to the DFG project Planung moderner Kommunikationsnetze unter Berücksichtigung realitätsgetreuer Verkehrsstrukturen and to the project Schnelle Netze by the Ministry for Education, Science and Research of the Government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Teaching activities

I am currently involved in the following courses at the University of Twente:

Furthermore, I lectured the course Internet Technology at the University of Aachen (RWTH Aachen), based on the well-known computer networking book of Kurose and Ross.
