The second plenary meeting of the WiBRATE project was hosted by the Università della Svizzera italiana and took place in Lugano, Switzerland, on the 21st and 22nd of February 2012. On the agenda were project progress and use case requirements, among other things.

PS members enjoyed skating on natural ice on a frozen lake this winter, as continuous extremely cold days of beginning February resulted in frozen lakes and canals.

Invited presentation at ICT Office

On 18 January 2012, Paul Havinga gave an invited presentation entitled "Smart Cities – Safer Cities" at ICT Office. The event was organized in the framework of Saas-Cloud networking events with the theme "Internet of things; smart, smarter, smartest".

PS members and their family celebrated the start of the holiday season in a pleasant atmosphere with Christmas music and a nice dinner. The occasion provided the chance to wish everyone nice holiday and happy new year, before all are gone for vacation.

IS-ACTIVE project at the Innovation Convention in Brussels

IS-ACTIVE has exhibited its inertial sensing system for advanced chronic condition monitoring and risk prevention at the Innovation Convention organized Brussels on 5-6 December. T IS-ACTIVE, a project funded by the AAL JP, is a work implemented by Norwegian, Dutch and Romanian Institutions and SMEs.
IS-ACTIVE was selected as one of the 50 most innovative projects of 2011 in Europe and it was short-listed out of 400 applicants from various fields of applications. The event, organized by the European Commission, was the first edition of an ambitious plan to make research and innovation major motors for job creation and to achieve sustainable exit from the current economic crisis, and gathered some 1200 participants.
